Fishing is one of our Biggest Attractions!
Palm Beach Caravan Park is located in the centre of some of the best fishing in the South Coast of NSW : Jervis Bay and St Georges Basin. It makes a perfect fishing base.
Enjoy the many fishing competitions on the Basin around October and November. This is when the Flathead are coming on the bite. Also around May and June for the Bream.
Other competitions are held on the Basin from various fishing clubs.
Catch and release of large fish is very popular in the Basin.
Fishing St Georges Basin
St Georges Basin is the easiest area to fish from Palm Beach Caravan Park as the closest boat ramp is only 500 meters away. A larger ramp in Basin View only 5 mins away.
St Georges Basin is ideally suited for soft Plastics fishing, with Large Flathead, Snapper, Whiting, Bream, Flounder, Trevally, Tarwhine, Tailor, Mullet, Blue swimmer Crabs, and during the Summer, Prawning.
St Georges Basin is a large shallow waterway, which exits to the sea at Sussex Inlet. The shoreline of the basin is shallow with the deepest parts about 10 meters deep. Small creeks like Wandandian creek and Tullawarra Lagoon make excellent Bream and Flathead fishing.
During Winter, Tailor are an exciting catch, Flathead can be caught either on lures or drifting around weed beds, which can be found all over the Basin.
With the shore being nice and shallow it is possible to wade around the edges throwing lures to pick up bream and flathead.
Fishing Jervis Bay
Fishing Jervis Bay is varied. It is great for game fishing, deep sea fishing, and shore fishing. Measuring 15km long and 10km wide, there is something for everyone.

Jervis Bay is one of the only places in the world to catch Marlin from the shore. The main ramp is at Murray’s Beach and has a good break wall to protect you from the wind; there is also a good ramp in Woollamia.
With many rocky points and sandy beaches, there are excellent places to fish from shore.
Jervis Bay is a Marine Park and there are fishing restrictions which should be checked before venturing out fishing. Marine park maps are available at the office of Palm Beach Caravan Park as well as tourist information centres in the area.
